Here are some of the highlights from this issue…

The Arkansas thoroughbred horse racing industry lost an icon in the industry on December 6th with the passing of Charles J Cella. The Cella family founded the Oaklawn Jockey Club in 1904. Mr. Cella took over as president of Oaklawn Jockey Club after the death of his father, John G. Cella in 1968. He made Oaklawn Park one of the most successful thoroughbred race tracks in the county. Mr. Cella is survived by two sons, John G Cella and Louis A Cella, and daughter Harriett Mar- shall, all of St. Louis, and eight grandchildren.

A 2016 registered Arkansas-bred filly by SCAT DADDY (by Johannesburg-Love Style, by Mr. Prospector) out of TIPPING POINT, a Point Given mare, sold at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $130,000.

The dam, Tipping Point, owned by James Matheny, was bred back to Icon Ike, who stood at Starfish Stallions, and produced a gorgeous 2017 filly. The mare is expecting a foal by BLAME in 2018.
